Beauty and electrical products and women’s fashion help boost sales to weekly high of £214.3m, but fall in furniture sales reflects economic uncertainty

John Lewis hit a new daily sales record on Black Friday, pushing aside fears that the US-inspired discount day had proved a damp squib.

Sales at the department store rose 7.2% in the week to 25 November compared with the same week last year to hit a new weekly high of £214.3m.
