US official says only bomber was injured in blast that sent smoke billowing around the compound in north-east of city
A person detonated a bomb outside the US embassy in Beijing, according to the US state department.
“There was an explosion at approximately 1pm today in the public space off the south-east corner of the embassy compound. According to the embassy’s regional security officer, there was one individual who detonated a bomb. Other than the bomber, there were no injuries. The local police responded,” a US embassy spokesperson told the Guardian.
