Josep Borrell, under increasing pressure to take a harder line, says Europe needs ‘new blood’

Spain’s foreign minister has rejected suggestions the country is experiencing mass immigration, calling instead for perspective on the issue and arguing that Europe needs “new blood” to make up for a low birth rate.

So far this year, around 21,000 migrants and refugees have arrived in Spain by sea, placing the country’s reception infrastructure under severe strain.
