Labor will preempt part of the Turnbull government’s looming political fix on power prices by pledging to introduce a new regulated capped offer for electricity consumers.
With the prime minister recalibrating his national energy guarantee in an attempt to contain a conservative-led revolt, and poised to accept the recommendations of a recent Australian Competition and Consumer Commission inquiry into the electricity sector, which include capped pricing – Bill Shorten will on Sunday pledge to support that particular initiative.
