O’Hara asks whether data will be transferred out of the EU following GDPR. Schroepfer says yes, it will, that’s how Facebook works, and promises to be compliant with GDPR. “We are excited to be in compliance with every EU citizen, no matter where the compute capacity is.

“And in fact many of the basics of GDPR are also being rolled out for the rest of the world. The series of screens we’ve developed for GDPR are being rolled out to other regions.”

O’Hara asks how Facebook finds out information from browsing off site.

“If you’re not a Facebook user, we don’t find out things like name and so on, just basic log information,” Schroepfer says.
