The headmaster of the elite Melbourne private school Trinity Grammar has resigned after months of pressure over his decision to sack a popular teacher who cut a student’s hair.

Dr Michael Davies, who had been the head of the boys’ school since 2014, announced his resignation at a staff meeting on Tuesday morning.
