Companies face justice department scrutiny as conservatives claim tech giants favour progressive views

The US attorney general, Jeff Sessions, has expressed a “growing concern” that social media companies may be “intentionally stifling the free exchange of ideas” on their platforms, the Department of Justice confirmed on Wednesday.

The comments came as the Senate intelligence committee grilled Facebook’s chief operating officer, Sheryl Sandberg, and Twitter’s CEO, Jack Dorsey, over foreign influence campaigns on their platforms.
