Met Office confirms 24.2C recorded in East Sussex, beating previous high of 23.6C in 1999

Record-breaking temperatures have been reported as people across the UK enjoy a sizzling bank holiday Monday.

On Monday morning a temperature of 24.2C (75.5F) was recorded at Herstmonceux, in East Sussex, the Met Office said, beating the previous record for an early May bank holiday of 23.6C in 1999.
