British-Iranian national begins hunger strike as husband claims DfID was target of surveillance

Nazanin Zagarhari-Ratcliffe, the British-Iranian woman held by Tehran, started a hunger strike today after her interrogators tried to persuade her to become a spy, her husband has claimed.

Richard Ratcliffe, speaking at a press conference to coincide with the start of his wife’s three-day prison protest, said: “What really pushed her over the edge was they tried to make her become a spy for Iran against the UK.”
