Meeting of bishops conference presidents in February will seek to address global scandal
Pope Francis is summoning all bishops conference presidents for a February summit to discuss preventing clerical sexual abuse against children – evidence that he realises the scandal is global and that inaction threatens to undermine his legacy.
The pope’s key cardinal advisers announced the decision Wednesday, a day before Francis is due to meet with US Catholic church leaders, who have been further discredited by the latest accusations in the decades-long sexual abuse and cover-up scandal.
