Crew told that Libyan coastguard was dealing with incident in which more than 100 people may have died

The crew of a Spanish rescue ship has said that Italian officials told it to let the Libyan coastguard respond to a distress call from a smuggling boat carrying migrants – only to hear shortly afterward that 100 migrants were missing and feared dead in the same area.
