Planes leaving Kingsford Smith airport have been delayed as emergency services attend

The air traffic control tower at Sydney airport has been evacuated after smoke was detected, preventing flights from landing or departing from the busy international hub.

“There’s a full ground-stop in place, so there’s no departures or arriving aircraft at this time,” a spokeswoman for Air Services Australia told Guardian Australia just after midday.
